On a long haul flight last month, whilst flying over central India In the dead of night, I was very fortunate to witness the top of a lightning storm. It appeared a mile away but realistically it was probably more like a hundred miles away. There was a cluster of fluffy grey clouds and at the top appeared bright orange and white fierce flashes every few seconds. The clouds had parted between the plane and the storm as if it wanted to be perved on. It looked so beautiful (too beautiful to capture on camera – all the images came out pitch black). It was overwhelming and powerful and made me and my fellow passengers in this tiny Airbus seem so insignificant.
The next time you are on a night flight, see if you are lucky to see the top of lightning. It is really magnificent!
